What happens next? The talk will focus on some interesting options for leveraging distributed resources under the control of centralized systems, allowing any-to-any applications that provide a secure, stable method of deploying applications into distributed networks of computers, and a look at a way to control user information and provisioning across diverse systems -- including real and virtual systems -- without tying your enterprise into the Active Directory quagmire. David's been lab-bound again ... get ready for more not-so-crazy ideas that may change how you do business ... again. David's presentation 10:00 AM Break 10:15 AM Tracie Paul and Ken Lowenstein - VMWare VMware is the first company to make mainframe-class virtual machine technology extensible to the Intel Architecture. With virtual machines now available from the desktop to data center servers, companies are using VMware Software throughout their enterprise to solve many infrastructure needs including: Server Consolidation, Disaster Recovery, and Reducing Test and Development turnaround time. Introductions Brief VMware Company History Key Features of VMware Software Isolation and Stability Hardware Independence Encapsulation Portability VMware in the Enterprise Desktop Solutions - VMware Workstation Test and Development O/S Migration Legacy Application and O/S Compatibility Technical Support Training Sales Demonstrations Server Solutions - GSX Server and ESX Server Server Consolidation Test and Development Disaster Recovery High Availability New Solutions on the Horizon -- ESX 2.0 and VPX Software VMware Customer Success Stories VMware Demonstration 11:45 AM LUNCH break There are plenty of places for LUNCH close to IBI 1:15 PM Alex deVries - LINUXCare Addressing Cultural Barriers in Deploying Linux on VM While Linux on z/VM is gaining momentum in enterprise data centers, there are still significant barriers to adoption preventing many companies from taking the plunge. The most significant of these barriers results from potential cultural conflict between the various teams -- typically distributed systems, mainframe, and networking - within the IT organization who are involved on the actual implementation. In order to successfully deploy Linux on z/VM, these potential hazards must be confronted headon from the start This session will reflect on real user experiences from enterprise companies who have faced these challenges, and will also offer different solutions on how to minimize the threats to Linux on z/VM deployment. Alex's presentation 2:15 PM Break 2:30 PM Romney White - IBM z/VM Control Program Update The newest releases of z/VM, Version 4 Releases 2.0 and 3.0 include many enhancements to the z/VM Control Program. These include new support for Linux guests, virtual networks and guest connectivity, as well as technological enhancement for IBM eServer zSeries servers. This session will describe the latest advances in zSeries virtualization technology in detail. 3:30 PM Break 3:45 PM Art Olbert - LINUXCare Open Source and the Mainframe in the Data Center Open source technology appears to be revolutionizing many aspects of customer IT deployments. The use of open source solutions on the mainframe at first may seem strange or odd. When customer business motivations are understood, and the strengths and weaknesses of the technologies are considered, the meshing of these technologies into viable solutions can make sense. These perspectives are presented and discusses, providing guidance to, if, and how to use open source on the mainframe in the data center. Art's presentation 4:45 PM Questions and Answers and the IBM give away's. We still have 30th Birthday T-Shirts provided by CA. 5:00 PM thank you very much. Please Note the meeting will be in the NEW Information Builders Conference Center in the same Building just on a different floor.
