- CA - Cloud Storage for System z
CA Cloud Storage for System z is a new, innovative solution that enables customers to backup and archive their mainframe data to a variety of NFS storage appliances (Riverbed, NetApp, DataDomain) and the Amazon AWS storage clouds (S3 and Glacier). The solution runs on Linux on VM; harnessing the power, security and cost-effectiveness of the IFL to move large amounts of data to and from the mainframe. CA Cloud Storage for System z can deliver significant cost savings to customers as it enables them to retire large amounts of physical tape and DASD as data is backed up and archived to less expensive, off-platform storage. The solution is designed with security in mind, leveraging end-to-end encryption of data in transit and data at rest. Cloud Storage for System z also enables new, cost-effective disaster recovery options

Bill Bitner - IBM - z/VM Systems Management Fundamentals:
Strategies and Options
The term "Systems Management" is frequently used, but what does it really mean? What is OpenStack and how does it fit into the z/VM System Management strategy? Who should be using the Systems Management APIs (SMAPI)? What is xCAT and how does its integration into z/VM change the Systems Management landscape? What solutions are available to you for augmenting and extending the z/VM hypervisor management options? All these questions will be answered in this session as we take a look at high level aspects of managing z/VM systems.

- Automating BB&T's Virtual Server Environment
BB&T is one of the largest financial services holding companies in the U.S. Based in Winston-Salem, N.C., the company operates approximately 1,851 financial centers in 12 states and Washington, D.C.. BB&T offers a full range of consumer and commercial banking, securities brokerage, asset management, mortgage and insurance products and services. BB&T is running their business in a large and complex mainframe and virtualized environment. Using IBM's Operations Manager for z/VM has allowed BB&T to not only monitor and manage their Linux virtual servers; they have experienced great success in managing the z/VM hypervisor supporting these Linux servers. This session will show how BB&T has learned to successfully monitor and manage virtual machines, spool usage, and other system events that are essential to keeping z/VM resources under control.
