9:45 AM	Phil Smith III - Voltage Security, Inc. - Enterprise Encryption 101 We've all seen the seemingly weekly news about yet another data breach: millions of credit card numbers, SSNs, or other personal information exposed. Encryption is the technology that minimizes the cost of such data breaches, by making the "leaked" data useless to the thief. So more and more sites are investigating encryption, some even before a breach occurs. But where do you start with this technology? How do you make a sensible choice among dozens of vendors, between hardware and software? Where and when do you encrypt data, and is that sufficient? What about emerging standards and legislation, such as PCI DSS, Red Flag, GLBA, SB1386, Directive 95/46/EC, et al.? Come hear about implementing encryption from a business perspective -- what you need to worry about and how to approach it. This is not a comparison of encryption technologies per se, but rather a look at the issues surrounding them. 11:00 AM	Romney White - IBM - New "Management" Infrastructure for z196 IBM zEnterprise Unified Resource Manager will be delivered as a set of significant extensions to existing System z management capabilities. These extensions provide system management functions for Linux guests of z/VM, for z/VM itself, and for virtual servers deployed on general-purpose IBM Blades that are being introduced as new elements of the multi-architecture zEnterprise system. This presentation will describe the new systems management functions. Through a specific use case scenario, it will also explore the path from an existing environment to one that exploits Unified Resource Manager functions. 1:00 PM	Len Santalucia - Vicom Infinity, INC. - IBM zEnterprise 196 also presenting Bob Lindsay and Paul Imbriale - Vicom This session will be an overview of the IBM zEnterprise 196 (z196), the System z server component of the IBM zEnterprise "System of Systems" just announced on July 22. The material presented will include considerable technical detail on z196 design and function: processor design including enhanced cache design and out of order instruction execution; memory design including redundant array of independent memory (RAIM) technology and memory offerings; and I/O subsystem structure including OSA-Express3 connectivity to the zEnterprise BladeCenter Extension (zBX). The session also provides an introduction and roadmap to other zEnterprise System technical topics including aspects of the zBladeCenter extension (zBX). This presentation will focus on some of the errors commonly made in z/VM and Linux on System z including system and networking environments and how to avoid them. Problem avoidance techniques ranging from the holistic, heuristic to the just plain common sense approach will be discussed. Come and see what the acronym YGYBYF means. Some of the self inflicted cases that will be discusses include not desk check configuration files, shoddy documentation practices, housekeeping glibness managing files, return code ignorance, and endless patching of the house of cards. z/VM and Linux on Systems z specifics exemplified like SYSTEM CONFIG tailoring, forgetting the root password, staying on back level CP and Linux kernel releases and overloaded Linux virtual machines. Hugenbruch - IBM - z/VM Single System Image and Guest Mobility Preview IBM has issued a Statement of Direction describing its intent to permit multiple z/VM Systems to collaborate in a Single System Image cluster, and to allow a running guest to be moved from one member of a cluster to another with Live Guest Relocation.
