10:30 AM | David Boyes - Sine Nomine Associates File-Level Linux Backups w/o Tape Drives
The talk is a description of an experiment using the
DASDtape support in the latest release of the Amanda
backup utility for Linux to interact with System
Managed Storage on z/OS and VM to drive backups to 390
tape without incurring the problems of dedicating or
moving tape drives into the Linux environment.
The talk will include a overview of the concept,
some discussion of the configuration, and where to go
to find out more about how to implement the setup.

This session will tell you about the newest features of the z/VM Control Program and how to use them. |

3:30 AM | Jeff Savit - Past President of MVMUA Virtualization: Past, Present, and Future
This session reviews the evolution of virtual machine
environments and virtualization from before CP/67 up
to the present. Special emphasis is given to the
"grand sequence" of VM/370 and its descendants,
with focus on how it pioneered and evolved
virtualization.
Also discussed are other virtual machine environments
and styles of virtualization, and current research.
An appreciation of VM is presented:
all the ideas and innovations it fostered,
the concepts it "got right", and its community.
