The corporate FTP server has gone down, an internal
Web server isn't available, access to a remote site
is failing. How do you know that these incidents
occur, except when the phone starts ringing? These
could be critical systems for the enterprise and you
need to know when they are down.

This session will discuss the Hobbit network services
monitor. Hobbit is an open source application and
can watch systems and the services running on them
and can show you or alert you when they are down.
The installation, configuration and reporting features
of Hobbit will be shown, including how Hobbit interfaces
              with zSeries operating systems.

10:30 AM Will Roden - IBM - "Team Leading"

                Everyone is a team leader.
Some have a team of many and some have a team of one.
Regardless, you will never stop building team leader
skills since there are many aspects to being a team
leader. We will discuss several of the basic skills.
This will include: planning, estimating, running a
project, how to get out of trouble, and many more.
Join us and we will focus on new skills and you will
also receive many useful references to continue your
              study

1:00 PM John Franciscovich - IBM - CP - Useful Things to Know

The z/VM Control Program (CP) - Useful Things to Know,
Come to this session for an introduction to the z/VM
Control Program (CP) and to learn about some of the
things ('what') it does for you. After an overview of
CP and how it uses disk space, storage, and devices,
we'll cover starting (IPLing) your z/VM system, defining
virtual machines, virtual networking, and various ways
              you can interact with CP.

2:15 PM John Franciscovich - IBM - CP - Under the Covers

The z/VM Control Program (CP) - Under the Covers,
Come to this session for a look under the covers at ('how')
CP operates, including the steps it takes to IPL and shut
down CP and how CP manages storage (memory) and processor
resources among virtual machines so they can do their work
efficiently. We'll also cover diagnostic information that
can be useful for testing and problem determination.
