IBM announced a new Linux-only edition of the platform, the Linux Foundation announced the formation of the Open Mainframe Project, we see an increase in support for open source components including KVM, MongoDB, node.js and even commercial offerings like VMWares vRealize. Why is all of this happening, what does it mean to mainframe customers and most importantly, how can the community get on board and drive the future direction.

Whether implementing cloud or supporting server consolidation projects, customers are implementing mission critical applications on Linux on z Systems. This session focuses on real customer problems and associated solutions with managing this new infrastructure, including monitoring messages, monitoring spool space, sending alerts, automatically fixing a problem, and backing up and recovering critical data. Examples are real situations from various customers around the world.
